Wounds from the past end up being reopened in the present day as the four friends continue to sort through the flat. Back in 1979 strikes are causing chaos and a General Election is imminent. The seven friends are now in their early thirties but only Jack, Jay and Orla are still living in the flat. All of the old flat mates end up being reunited at the pubas Alan and Lilly celebrate their engagement. Alan’s news ends up confirming Jay’s sense of alienation from the others. When he sees Charlotte again it also reminds him of what he’s lost and he decides tobecome clean and stand as a Labour Party candidate. Lily and Alan' are married and their reception is taking place. A stop and search with the police sees Victor being arrested. Jack is the only person who can save him but in doing so he knows he will risk his new political career and any chance of being back together with Charlotte.
