Levison Wood reaches the last leg of his expedition. Accompanied by his old friend and guide Binod, he tracks the mountains from eastern Nepal into the final country of his journey: Bhutan. Few outsiders ever get to see Bhutan, as the government places strict limits on the number of tourists. Levison has a rare opportunity to explore its spectacular Himalayan scenery, experience colourful festivals and historic monasteries and meet its people, who measure their country's wealth on Gross National Happiness rather than Gross Domestic Product. Levison and Binod plan to walk into the country's mystical eastern regions towards the world's highest unclimbed peak: Ghankar Puensem, the country's holiest mountain, which mountaineers are forbidden to climb. Kitted out in traditional dress, they join revellers celebrating the previous king's birthday in the country's capital, before heading into the east of the country: one of the most inaccessible parts of the Himalayas.

Levison Wood continues his four-month challenge to trek 1700 miles along the length of the Himalayas. In this episode he walks through breath-taking scenery in northern Pakistan's little-visited mountain valleys, before seeing how close he can get to the heavily militarised Line of Control that divides Pakistan from India. Along the way he crosses raging torrents, passes 4000-metre-high peaks and visits spectacular valleys that have been closed to foreigners for 70 years. He spends time with local tribespeople who have never seen a foreigner before, as well as an alarmingly large spider. Levison and his guide Malang have reached the Astore Valley: an area known for terrorist activity, where the Taliban murdered 11 climbers two years previously.

Levison and his guide, Malang, need help from Kyrgyz and Wakhi tribespeople to make it to the Irshad Pass, a 5000-metre wall of snow and ice that stands between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
