Told in "mockumentary" style, Trail & Error is an outrageous comedy that follows a bright-eyed New York lawyer, Josh, who gets his first case in a tiny southern town defending an eccentric "rollercizing" poetry professor accused of murdering his wife. Josh puts together a quirky legal, and mostly inept, team of local misfits. Josh's job won't be easy, especially when his client is always making himself look guilty. Trial & Error includes a number of references to The Staircase, the 2004 French true-crime docuseries about a crime novelist who is arrested for the murder of his wife.
Jeff Astrof and Matt Miller serve as writers and executive producers. Jeffrey Blitz directs and also serves as an executive producer. The series is produced by Barge Productions and Good Session Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Season 01, Episode 01 – ”Pilot”
In the premiere, rollercizing poetry professor Larry Henderson is arrested for the murder of his wife; and bright-eyed lawyer Josh Segal comes down from New York to the quirky town of East Peck, S.C., to defend him. After meeting his eccentric client and odd-ball team, Josh quickly realizes he's in over his head.
