Season 03, Episode 14 - “Medieval Terrace“
It is the semi-final, where three designers try and secure their place in the grand final. The challenge they have to conquer in order to get there is redesigning a sitting room each in a medieval terrace in the grand cathedral city of Wells, Somerset. Judging them as ever are Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood, but for this semi-final decision they have invited along another guest judge - designer and entrepreneur Orla Kiely.The three designers are being tested like never before in these grade 1 listed cottages, with tight restrictions on what they can and can't do. Their budget is slightly higher at £1,500, but with the increase come higher expectations from the judges. One designer is seriously out to impress, attempting difficult trompe l'oeil paint effects in their kitsch take on a hunting lodge scheme. The second semi-finalist takes on an intricate mural design across the walls and ceiling, which they will have to execute to perfection in order to impress. Meanwhile, the last designer is going all out, answering their colourful, French chateaux-style brief with bright orange walls, black furniture and an ornate pink sofa, which could be a risk too far.On top of this, each designer must impress with a surprise chall - enge. They are given the same item they were asked to upcycle in the first round to test how much they have improved throughout the competition.Meanwhile, architectural historian Tom Dyckhoff discovers hidden medieval murals and looks at what life was like when these dwellings were originally built.As for who will go through to the grand final, the judges and Orla have a big decision to make.

Season 03, Episode 13 - “Coastal Cottages“
It is the quarter-final and the last four designers in the competition are in the village of Beer in Devon, taking on a cosy sitting room each in a row of coastal cottages. It will be down to Sophie, Daniel and guest judge, interior and architectural designer Oliver Heath, to decide who has what it takes to go through to the final three.In their bid to become a semi-finalist, one designer shows skill with a hand-painted mural, but has a disaster hanging wallpaper upside down on the opposite wall. Our second quarter-finalist has a terrible start when they discover damaged, damp walls in their room, and things don't improve when the judges have grave concerns over the whole look of their New England scheme. The third designer attempts a modern look, but their design knowledge is called into question when they use wood-effect wallpaper and cherubs alongside contemporary furniture. Meanwhile, the last quarter-finalist goes dramatically off-brief with dark navy walls and charcoal-coloured furniture. Have they pushed their homeowner too far?As well as their schemes, they all take on a surprise challenge. They are asked to join forces with one of their competitors to test their teamwork skills. Each pair gets a trunk to upcycle, but working together with one of their rivals brings some strong differences of opinion.Architectural historian Tom Dyckhoff explores the coastal village, once known as a haven for smugglers, and uncovers its far-reaching architectural influence.The designers have £1,000, three days and the help of a small team to deliver a knockout scheme, and prove they deserve one of three places in the semi-final.

Season 03, Episode 12 - “Farm Houses“
It’s the last round of the heats and there is just one remaining place in the quarter-final for one of the two remaining designers. They’re taking on the monumental task of redesigning an iconic farmhouse kitchen each. With a budget of £1,000, a small team to help them and just three days, the designers must complete their projects to a high standard and impress their clients and the judges alike.Things are not going to be easy. One designer faces a battle over painting the dated wooden units, and while decorative elements like the woodland print wallpaper go down well, the judges have grave concerns over the practical side of the design. The other designer showcases their ingenuity with kitchen utensil light fitting, bespoke hooks and quirky accessories. However, while they’ve been busy with these inventive ideas, have they neglected the overall look of the French farmhouse brief?Presenter and architectural historian Tom Dyckhoff looks back at the history of these farmhouses, while the judges must make the huge decision about which designer shows the skill and talent to become a quarter-finalist and which will leave the competition.

Architectural historian Tom Dyckhoff explores the story behind the buildings – a Victorian reimagining of a traditional village.For the designers, the challenge of these larger rooms – with a £1,000 budget, over three days – is a stretch. One shows skill with a clever technique to rejuvenate an old armchair, but proving they can bring together an eclectic, bohemian look is seemingly impossible. The second designer impresses with an outstanding window treatment, but could ruin their chances by drawing on the arts and crafts period of the property rather than sticking to the more modern brief requested. Meanwhile, the last designer works hard to create glamour on the tight budget, but ideas like using an ornate frame around the television and replacing a perfectly good carpet could jeopardise their chances.With two places on offer in the next round, it’s down to Sophie and Daniel to decide who displays enough talent to remain in the competition.

It’s the start of the fourth and final heat. Our last group of wannabe designers compete across three challenges to win one place in the quarter-final. This time they transform a bedroom each in an unusual self-build estate in south London. Hoping to fill the last spot in the quarter-final are industrial textile weaver Craig, personal assistant Nardia, furniture restorer Talie and children’s author and illustrator Anne.The designers must prove their skill in just three days, working to a client’s brief with a budget of £1,000 and the help of a small team. Craig faces criticism from the start when he comes up with a bright orange colour scheme – complete with zigzag patterned fabrics – to answer a calm brief requested by his homeowners. Nardia takes on a lot of work in her bid to turn a very plain spare room into a magical woodland scheme for two young sisters, and finds she has to drop some plans. Talie faces trouble implementing an artistic Moroccan brief when her homeowners decide blue doesn’t answer their request for spicy colours, and the judges fail to be dazzled by her creativity. Meanwhile, Anne struggles to deliver a decorative Japanese scheme for a nine-year-old girl.Presenter and architectural historian Tom Dyckhoff uncovers the fascinating story of this special neighbourhood, entirely built by the original owners. It is down to the judges, though, to decide which three designers have the potential to go further and which one must leave the competition for good.

They must transform awkward attic bedrooms in two desirable 1960s riverside homes in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. They’ll have to be more creative than ever in these high-end properties, as they still have just £1,000, three days and a small team to help them transform their rooms.Both designers are being stretched with very different schemes. One must deliver a modern bachelor pad-style room for the homeowners’ 20-something son, but while their ideas for geometric shapes and angular design go down well, their bright yellow and putty colour scheme raises many concerns. Meanwhile, the second designer is asked to create a hippy yet chic bedroom inspired by the colours of an Indian sari. When they come up with a multi-coloured scheme with bulky pieces of bespoke furniture, doubt is cast on their ability. One designer faces disaster when their kitchen units fall apart, putting them behind schedule and giving them and their team a huge amount of work to do. The second designer struggles with what should be the simple job of fitting a new floor. Meanwhile, the final designer is almost overwhelmed with spatial planning issues, after being asked to incorporate a lounge area to one end of the kitchen.After such a difficult task, the judges must decide which two designers have the talent to go through to the next round, and which one will leave the competition.

Rachel has some clever techniques for creating easy artwork of the local area, but after clashing with her client over colours and television position she’s got a point to prove with her final scheme. Sarah has a battle on her hands to convince everyone her chosen green colour scheme will unify two ends of her room. Lily gives herself a huge task, having taken on many hand-crafted elements for her scheme.Architectural historian Tom Dyckhoff explores the village and uncovers what life was like in the pretty Peak District cottages.
