Clare is in Japan to talk to Dr Keiichi Ueda who has spent the last 12 years attempting to improve the life of Fuji, a dolphin with no tail. Steve is in the rainforest of Laos where vets are attempting some ground-breaking keyhole brain surgery on Champa, an endangered moon bear. Clare also joins a team in London attempting to look after Priscilla, a Galapagos tortoise, who requires keyhole surgery to work out what’s wrong with her.

Clare is with a team in South Africa who are attempting to help a rhino who was attacked by poachers for her horn. She also makes her way to Borneo where world leading Orangutan expert Dr Birute Galdikass looks after ill and injured orangutans before releasing them back into the wild. Steve pays a visit to Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago to learn how human heart technology is being used to help chimpanzees.

Clare Balding makes her way to the Wolong Giant Panda Base in South West China where vets are using high-tech animal medicine in an effort to save the species. In Cameroon, West Africa, a gorilla called Shufai, was shot in the arm when he was just a baby. Shufai nearly died but his life was saved by Rachel Hogan, who runs a primate sanctuary. In Okinawa Clare joins a vet, Dr Keiichi Ueda who’s comes up with a way to give manta rays ultra-sound scans underwater. Steve Leonard travels to India for an ancient kite festival that has unintended consequences on the wildlife.
