Later with Jools Holland S00E2018 Jools Annual Hootenanny 2018 1080i HDTV H264-SAMUEL98

Joining Jools to see out 2018 and see in 2019 are Michael Buble, Jess Glynne, Nile Rodgers and Chic, George Ezra, Marc Almond, Rudimental, Yola, The Record Company, Junior Giscombe, Hot 8 Brass Band, Ruby Turner, and the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards.

Michael Buble performs classic songs in a big band style from his latest Love album, including his take on Elvis Presley's Such a Night. North London's own disco queen Jess Glynne performs a unique version of her number one smash I'll Be There, and Nile Rodgers and Chic drop big band versions of their floor-filling late 70s party classics.

Also performing is former Soft Cell frontman Marc Almond, who has been on the road and collaborating on an album with Jools. This episode introduces up-and-coming Bristol-based country-soul queen Yola Carter, who now goes by the name of Yola and whose debut album Walk through Fire, out in early 2019, fuses Glen Campbell-style melodies with Yola's committed soul stylings and was produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. There is a rare appearance by British soul star Junior Giscombe, whose Mama Used to Say was the first major R&B hit by a UK soul singer in the US, and who returns next year with an album tinged with his first love of reggae. There is also the queen of boogie-woogie herself, Ruby Turner, ready to ignite the studio with her powerful gospel vocals.

Also joining Jools in the winter wonderland of his enchanted studio are star of the year George Ezra, whose second album Staying at Tamara's includes two million-selling singles Shotgun and Paradise, and whose big band offers a jaunty update on the jug band sound of the mid-60s, and London dance collective Rudimental, who are about to drop their third album Toast to Our Differences, which includes the big hits they play tonight - These Days, featuring Jess Glynne and Dan Caplen, and The Sun Comes Up, featuring James Arthur. Add in some straight ahead rock 'n' roll from LA-based trio The Record Company, whose lead single Life to Fix has helped their second album All of This Life dominate the Americana charts in 2018, plus the unique marching band stylings of New Orleans's brass band The Hot 8 Brass Band, who tour the UK in early 2019 and who have just released their life-affirming take on Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Throw in the Midnight Moment with the Pipes & Drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, and a surprising blend of party guests from the worlds of stage and screen offering us their resolutions and predictions, flanked by the odd character from the world of cabaret, late on 31 December on BBC Two is undoubtedly the moment to Hootenanny!

Joining Jools on the fourth show of this series are five artists all returning in triumph following debuts at earlier points in their now burgeoning careers.

Norwegian singer and pop star Sigrid made her UK TV debut on the show in May 2017 with Don't Kill My Vibe at the piano and has since gone on to win the BBC Music Sound of 2018 accolade, enjoyed a top ten hit with her track Strangers and became a must-see on the festival circuit. Now, to top it all, she returns to perform a new number or two with her band.

No stranger to the show, or indeed our cultural life of the last 40 years, Paul Weller returns to perform in an acoustic vein with just regular cohort Steve Craddock and a string quartet. Paul and co are in the middle of the studio floor with a track from his recently released 14th solo album True Meanings, a collection of dreamily autumnal, wistful, even melancholy songs. Weller debuted on Later... in 1993 with Sunflower and has appeared on the show more than any other artist.

Nigerian-born and London based singer Jacob Banks made an impressive debut on the show back in 2013 and has gone on to captivate audiences around the world with his soulful voice and songs. Following a series of EPs, he is finally releasing his debut full length album in November and on his return to the show performs a track at the piano with Jools.

Dublin's indie folk outfit Villagers made their debut on the show back in 2010 just before the release of their much acclaimed and Mercury Prize-nominated debut Becoming a Jackal. Lead by singer-songwriter Conor O'Brien, who recently collaborated with Paul Weller on his album, they return to the show with songs from their fifth album The Art of Pretending to Swim, which has been described as their most ambitious record to date.

New York State born blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa opened for BB King a number of times in the late 80s when he was 12 years old and knows a thing or two about the blues with the likes of Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton greatly inspiring him. He debuted on Later... back in 2009 and has gone on to amass Grammy nominations and play major venues around the world. He plays a track from his 13th studio album Redemption, which mixes his customary fiery guitar work with Memphis horn arrangements for a compendium of big-band and blues clubland raunch.

Alongside all the returning artists, in a classic Later... tradition, is hotly-tipped debutant South East Londoner and BRIT school dropout Octavian, who mixes a medley of UK subgenres with elements of grime, drill and house on his mixtapes and videos, and debutes his live band.

Also debuting and giving the age-old Flamenco sound a modern pop twist is Spain's new star, 25 year-old Rosalia who s

Joining Jools is Neneh Cherry, who showcases a song or two from her new and fifth solo album Broken Politics, which was produced by Four Tet and sees her turn attention to more political themes, such as tackling gun culture and the refugee crisis.

Long Island brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario, AKA The Lemon Twigs, delighted with their debut album Do Hollywood in 2016, which fused an array of beyond-their-years influences of the likes of Todd Rundgren, 10cc, Beach Boys and The Zombies. They make their debut showing off songs from their recently released second album Go to School, which has been described as 'an ambitious chimp-centred baroque rock musical'.

Liverpool legends Echo & the Bunnymen have released a handful of iconic albums over their 40-year career that has seen them become a touchstone and influence on a host of musicians. Original members vocalist Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant perform a couple of their best-known songs, which they recently revisited for a new album called The Stars, The Oceans and The Moon, along with a brand new number.

Rising Tyneside musician Sam Fender writes lyrics about government surveillance, fake news and sexual harassment - he makes his debut on the show imbuing his nascent indie anthems with an acerbic bite.

Also this week, Frederick Nathaniel 'Toots' Hibbert, who practically invented reggae when he first referred to it in 1968's Do the Reggay, and along with his band The Maytals created some of the genre's finest with 54-46 Was My Number and Monkey Man. He treats us to a couple of classics acoustically, ahead of a UK tour.

Completing the line-up is one of the most talked about artists on the country music scene, from Nashville, Ashley McBryde brings her bourbon-soaked sound to the show with a track from her debut album Girl Going Nowhere.

Joining Jools on the second show of this series are Devon stadium rockers Muse, who return to the show three years after their global chart-topping album Drones, with songs from their upcoming release Simulation Theory, an LA-recorded science fiction based affair featuring production from Rich Costey and Timbaland.

Making her TV debut on the show is Southampton-born, now London-based Laurel, who first caught attention with a series of chamber-pop EPs and mixtapes recorded solely in her bedroom. She performs a couple of tracks from her recently released full-length debut Dogviolet.

Also on the show is New Orleans-based R&B and funk musician Jon Cleary, who was born not far from the Maidstone studios in neighbouring Cranbrook, and has worked with legends such as Dr John, BB King and Bonnie Raitt. He plays a couple of selections from his new Dyna-mite album.

Making a welcome return to the studio is Michigan-born, now Iceland-based singer John Grant, who performs tracks from his upcoming fourth album Love Is Magic.

Completing the line-up are two debut performances - Leicester's self-proclaimed 'best band ever' Easy Life, who all met at school two years ago and have since made waves with what the NME call 'the middle ground of hip-hop, indie and slacker-rock', and 19-year-old Londoner R&B soul singer Hamzaa, whose voice has been described as 'an intoxicating blend of old-soul sapience with a sensual edge'.
