Plot: One of the three Polish pre-war adaptations of Stanisław Moniuszko's opera. Konstanty Meglicki's film is not, however, a faithful adaptation of it. Jerzy Braun used only the main motifs of the libretto in the script. The film was made in 1929, still in the era of silent cinema, but already at the sound stage. It was shown in cinemas at that time with a "song and music" illustration recorded on gramophone records. Recordings performed by outstanding opera artists: Matilda Polińska-Lewicka and Ignacy Dygas were mainly used. In 1932, the producer of the film, Wojciech Błaszczyk, decided to re-edit Halka and sound it "permanently". Jontek's arias were sung by Władysław Ladis, Jan Kiepura's brother, and Halka by Zuzanna Karin, a young, promising singer.
