On Thursday, to the delight of poker fans everywhere, the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship returned after a one-year hiatus. The popular event saw 64 invitation-only participants square off at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, each putting up $25,000 for a shot at the top prize of $750,000. Among the players who advanced to Friday’s Day 2 action were Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Galfond, Viktor Blom, Jonathan Duhamel, Barry Greenstein, and Phil Hellmuth, who is looking to become the only two-time winner in the event’s history. Another former champ, Huck Seed, is eyeing the same goal. Seed rounded out Thursday’s action by defeating Mohsin Charania in the final match of the day.
