Alan Yentob introduces the first of a two-part documentary profile of the New York film-maker, originally made for the cinema. In a series of interviews filmed over 18 months, Allen talks about his childhood in Brooklyn, his early success as a stand-up and his first forays into screenwriting and film-making. With contributions from actors who have worked with him, including Diane Keaton, Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz, as well as fellow director Martin Scorsese and critic Leonard Maltin.
