Season 01, Episode 05 – “Dampier Peninsula”
Ray Mears continues his exploration of the magical landscapes of the southern continent, here heading to Western Australia's rugged Dampier peninsula. Arriving at sunrise, Ray witnesses incredible high tides, the level of which varies by as much as 12 metres. Then, crossing from east to west, Ray wonders how early explorers were able to survive amid rushing waters, hidden reefs and whirlpools. He learns that the churning water creates feeding opportunities for marine life, and travels with marine biologist James Brown to an island of shells. After a drive round the tip with Brian Lee, Ray learns how the Bardi people use the tides to survive.
